Thanksgiving 2024 snowstorm

Southern Vermont won the lottery for the Thanksgiving snowstorm. Killington Ski Resort has been open and the new snow created some great conditions for Turkey Day skiers. They gobbled it up.

Other ski areas are making use of the new snow and cold air to make more snow to get some trails and lifts open. Follow this link for the anticipated 2024 ski area opening dates in Vermont.

Jay Peak Resort opens to passholders today, November 29, and to the public tomorrow.

The first week of December will see more Vermont ski areas open. Follow this link for direct links to Vermont ski area conditions. Always check before you go to see what kind of terrain is open. And be sure to check their operating hours since we are so early in the season.

I don’t know about you, but we are thankful for temperatures that are cold enough to get snow guns blasting and natural snow to fall from the sky! And we’re thankful for the people who are out there getting our playgrounds ready. You rock!

World Cup ski racing in Vermont

Don’t forget that this weekend, November 30 and December 1, 2024, Killington hosts the best female skiers in the world. They race giant slalom (medium-sized turns) on Saturday and slalom (tight, short turns) on Sunday.

If you can’t get to Killington, watch NBC-TV on Saturday and Sunday to see the second run of each day. Next weekend the World Cup skiers move on to race at Mt. Tremblant, Québec. UPDATE: No racing in Quebec! They didn't have enough snow!

Cross-country skiing on a bit of fresh snow in the Mad River Valley

Sunday temperatures are sounding very chilly. For this reason, this morning I checked ski area snow reports to see where there might be some new snow to play in today. Some lake-effect snow had been…
