Sunsine + snow = a great day to be skiing!

— Cross-country skiing, Ole's

There wasn't a huge base of snow to cross-country ski on for Saturday, but the conditions were darn good. Blue skies and warm sunshine made it all the better!

We ventured out to Nordic ski in the Mad River Valley of Vermont. We arrived to find much of the trail network open at Ole's Cross-Country in Waitsfield, Vt.

The temperatures have been nice and cold lately so the snow has not been melting. (Can I get an "amen"?!)

We enjoyed a sunny ski loop that brought us across meadows with mountain views, and past horses and some active logging. The only bad trail was Trail #5, which cuts through the woods. It was barely passable on skis. But that's what happens under tall evergreen trees. The branches catch the snow instead of letting it fall on the trail!

We seem to be in a cycle of light snow dustings. The mountains may get a few inches this week. Sounds good to us!

Sunday temperatures are sounding very chilly. For this reason, this morning I checked ski area snow reports to see where there might be some new snow to play in today. Some lake-effect snow had been…
