Skiing into 2025

After a meltdown, we've been enjoying colder temperatures and steady upslope snowfall in the northern Green Mountains.

At higher elevations, the snow has been adding up! Meanwhile, in places like the Champlain Valley, there is very little snow on the ground.

Bottom line: If you want to ski, head to the hills!

I skied in some windblown new snow at Bolton Valley ski resort on January 2. The wind had taken fresh snow from some places and dropped it in stiff drifts that were fun to plow through.

Then, on Sunday, January 5, I enjoyed fluffy snow during a mellow ski tour in the woods at about 1,500 feet in elevation. On the ski tour, the snow was not super deep so I actually wiped out when I thought I could cross a tiny stream on snow-covered rocks. The rocks decided to stop me in my tracks! Luckily, I mostly kept my skis out of the water. I just had a little ice scraping to do to get gliding again.

Here's to a cold and snowy 2025!
