Boy, that headline has a lot of "S" words!
Spring has sprung. Big time.
After last week's snowstorm, the weather soon turned warm and rainy. Sunday morning brought sunshine, so it was time to hit the slopes for some super-soft-serve turns!
Today was the last day of the season at a couple of ski areas, including Mad River Glen and Smugglers' Notch. At Sugarbush, it was the last time to ride the North Lynx chair and Gate House quad. Now the ski area is down to skiing off of the Super Bravo quad, mainly, because they have started construction on a new Heaven's Gate fixed quad. Sugarbush's Mt. Ellen is also closed.
Early runs today featured a fresh 1 - 2 inches of cream cheese snow. If you got it early in the shade, the new snow was a bit wintry. But once the sun hit it, the snow was super sticky.
Tip: Wax your skis for spring skiing!
We had fun in the sun, nonetheless. The bumps on Steins were quite large. We did a few laps on Snowball since it was much less popular than Spring Fling. The coverage was decent considering it's mid-April. You definitely had to watch where you went. The views were great until after lunchtime when the rain rolled in.
Check out our photos from this morning at Sugarbush. A number of Vermont ski resorts are still open. Look into their operating hours and details before you go!
