Springy snow and blue sky seen from chairlift

Springy snow and blue skies as seen from the Wilderness double chair at Bolton Valley ski resort, Vermont.

On Wednesday I got out into the afternoon sun for a bit of spring skiing. Yes, as in sticky-snow-like-it-is-late-March skiing.

The sun and temperatures felt great and the late-afternoon sun was lovely. But the sun-baked snow make things slowwwww-going. In the woods where the snow was ungroomed and untracked, you had to be agressive to turn through the mashed potatoes.

On Monday night and Tuesday morning, the higher peaks of northern Vermont got a few inches of snow. Now we're looking at messy mixed precipitation for Thursday and Friday. (Check our weather and snow conditions page.) We're hoping to get a few inches at the back end of this, too.

It certainly has been a weird repeating cycle of weather this winter!
