First, let me make this clear: Even though I skied on Stowe's closing day, it doesn't mean I'm done skiing! ;)
Saturday night's temperatures looked like they would be cool, and Sunday looked to be partly sunny, so the plan was hatched to ski Sunday at Stowe Mountain Resort. It was the last day of their season and they were running a decent number of trails off of the Fourrunner Quad and the Sunrise six-pack on Mt. Mansfield.
The start of the morning featured zippy turns on hard-packed or sugary snow. Things warmed up and it became sugary snow in places like the shaded Nosedive, or corn snow on the trails facing the sun. Midday it was corn snow most everywhere. Good stuff!
Even the bumps softened up. They were fun on Centerline, Hayride and T-Line (although I hit a couple rocks on T-Line).
Music was blasting from the top terminal of the quad. Some folks wore tutus or colorful ski gear. People were tailgaiting in the parking lot, which was quite empty at 8 a.m. and was filling up before noon.
It was a fun Sunday on the ski hill, for sure!
What Vermont ski resorts are still open?
Jay Peak, Killington and Sugarbush are still operating. Check their snow conditions and midweek schedules before you go!
From the WTF Department...
Why is there an internationally ubiquitous coffee retailer on Main Street in Stowe Village? There were already at least four great, local coffee places in town already — most slinging coffee roasted in the state or region. One is nearly across the street.
People: Please patronize the local coffee shops and cafés. Let's help 'em out!
