Today may usher in springtime, but I'm still planning on some time on the snow!
The weather has been lovely and will continue to be for much of the next five days or so. The National Weather Service is calling for increasing clouds on Saturday evening and a chance of rain or snow on Sunday morning (20 percent chance, they say). Otherwise, we're looking at sunshine on the ski slopes of northern Vermont!
It is really nice to be able to ski in light layers and slather on the sunscreen at this time of year while you ski in soft bumps and corn snow. I'm not sure if we'll get more snow this season, so get out there and enjoy it while it's here!
NCAA Skiing Championships
Hats off to UVM skiers David Donaldson (freshman from Toronto, Ont.) and Juergen Uhl (senior from Muhlenbach, Germany) who took top honors in the giant slalom and 10k classic championship races, respectively. The NCAA Skiing Championships were held in Maine last week.
In the end, western collegiate teams raced to the top spots, with UVM putting in the best performance of any eastern ski team. The top 10 NCAA team results were:
- U Denver
- U Colorado
- U New Mexico
- U Alaska at Anchorage
- U Vermont
- U Utah
- Dartmouth College
- Middlebury College
- U New Hampshire
- U Nevada
US Ski Team Superstars
And kudos to US Freestyle Ski Team skier Hannah Kearney (of Norwich, Vermont) who just yesterday earned her spot as the 2009 World Cup Moguls Champion!
And to US skier extrordinaire Lindsey Vonn (of Vail, Colo.), who finished the World Cup season by earning the Overall World Cup Champion title as well as overall titles in Downhill and Super-G. Unbelievable!
