How cool is this?
US Ski Team star Ted Ligety just wrote on Twitter that he helped shovel snow onto the T-Bar line at Cochran's Ski Area in Richmond, Vt., in preparation for tomorrow's slalom race! The race benefits the small ski area and its skiing program which has turned out its fair share of Olympic skiers.
Ligety is the Overall World Cup GS Champion, and his teammate Jimmy Cochran is the best US slalom racer right now (ranked 20th in the world). I see Olympian Sarah Schleper's name on the impressive start list, too.
Here's the scoop on the "Thank God For Snowmaking Race" from the Cochran's Web site:
Wednesday, March 24 2010, 9 am - 3pm
Join us on Wednesday, March 24 for our annual "Thank God For Snowmaking" race. Jimmy Cochran, Tim Cochran Kelley, Jessica Cochran Kelley and their US Ski Team teammates will race alongside college and high school racers to benefit Cochran's. Racer registration is now full (we are maintaining a waiting list), but there's always room for more fans! Sorry, no public skiing on race day. Bring some dollars for the BBQ.
First Run scheduled for 9 a.m. Second run targeted for 12:30 p.m. And here's <link http: www.vara.org news external-link-new-window>more from VARA.
And here's the scoop on the "lovely" weather:
Richmond / Wednesday: Snow showers, possibly mixed with rain before noon, then a chance of rain showers. High near 42. North wind between 13 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
