The coronavirus is throwing a wrench into a lot of plans. Ski swaps are no exception.

The volunteers who run these fundraising events have gone back to the drawing board to figure out how to offer them safely. Some have considered virtual swaps or outdoor sales, while others are canceling altogether.

2020 Vermont Ski Swaps and Benefit Ski Sales

September 26

South Burlington High School Ski & Board Sale 

  • Sale is Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • South Burlington High School, Dorset Street, SoBu
  • To follow safety guidelines, the sale will be held in tents outside — rain or shine — and no consignment gear will be accepted this year. You can find new and used Nordic and alpine skis, snowboards, boots and winter apparel from vendors.
  • Masks required. Only credit cards accepted; no cash.

October 2 - 5

Pico Ski Club’s Virtual Ski & Snowboard Swap and Sale

Due to COVID-19, they replaced the in-person swap with a virtual sale.

  • The online sale is October 2 - 5. 
  • Consignments accepted: gently used, clean ski, snowboard and winter athletic clothing (no street clothing ), modern alpine and snowboard equipment, backcountry, telemark and skinning/Alpine Touring skis. Register your consignment gear online in advance — now through September 27.
  • If your gear sells, you drop it off at Pico Ski Club, Mendon, Vt., between October 7 - 10.
  • Buyers will come to pick up their purchases at Pico Ski Club on October 11 - 12.

October 10 - 11

Smuggs Ski and Snowboard Sale

Some changes to the sale this year due to COVID-19.

  • Sale is in a new location: Champlain Valley Expo Center, Essex Junction, Vt.
  • Vendors will sell gear. 
  • You need to register online in advance for a one-hour time slot to shop. Maximum of 75 shoppers in the space at one time. 
  • Masks required. Sanitation stations provided.
  • Sale is Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

October 31 - November 4

Cochran’s Online Ski & Ride Sale

To avoid the crowds that come with the annual ski sale, they have moved consignment and the sale online. Consignors and buyers will schedule specific drop-off and pick-up times which allow for physical distancing. Drop-off and pick-up will occur outside of the Cochran's Ski Area lodge, Richmond, Vt. Note new dates!

  • Register your consignment gear online between October 23 - 29.
  • The online sale — including consigned and new gear — is October 31 - November 4.
  • Sellers schedule an appointment to drop off your gear that sold between November 7 - 8.
  • Buyers schedule a time to pick up gear between November 13 - 15.

November 2 - 27

Okemo Mountain School Virtual Ski Sale

Due to COVID-19, they replaced the in-person swap with a virtual sale.

  • Gear donation drop-off (donations only, no consignment): September 14 - October 19 by appointment only at OMS in Ludlow, Vt.
  • Online sale dates: November 2 - November 27.
  • Gear pick-up by appointment only. 
  • Detailed instructions on the school website.

November 5 through March

Waitsfield Elementary School Ski & Skate Sale

The in-person event has been canceled this year, but check out their Facebook swap page.

Canceled: 

  • Killington Ski and Snowboard Club Ski Swap has been canceled this year.
  • Colchester High School Ski Sale has been canceled this year.
  • Cambridge Area Rotary Ski, Ride & Winter Gear Sale has been canceled this year.
