The Skimeister and I got out on the trails at Bolton Valley Resort during the lunch hour and early afternoon today. We took our telemark skis and played on the packed powder ski runs, which were not very busy on this Friday.
The ski area had about four to five inches of fresh, natural snow on the sides of the trails and on less-traveled connector trails. It was fun to plow through some freshies!
The coverage on the snowmaking trails was very good and we enjoyed taking runs on the Mid-Mountain Double and Vista Quad. Of course, I'm always seeking out powder so I also ventured onto some all-natural snow trails and found myself some grass, dirt and rock under the pretty powder (such as on the trail that runs under the Wilderness Lift), and some waterbars that aren't filled in. I stayed on my toes and got some fun turns in wherever I could! We just need more snow for those all-natural trails.
The temperatures were very comfortable today; I'm guessing it was almost 30 degrees. No precipitation fell while we were at the mountain, but the resort had some snowguns blasting to add to the base. Now if we could just hold the colder temperatures instead of riding a rollercoaster above and below the freezing mark (I never did like rollercoasters)!
It felt awesome to get out among snowy trees and a little fresh powder today. Makes for a great end to the work week!
