Of moose and moguls

— Jay Peak, Spring skiing

This morning I saw a moose! At first I thought it was a horse, but quickly I realized it was a large moose and he or she was on the move.

Now you might ask why this is so exciting. Well I didn't see the moose in the woods or along a dirt road. This guy was crossing the four lanes of Kennedy Drive in South Burlington!

For those of you familiar with South Burlington, Vt., you know that it is highly residential. There are nice small chunks of woods but really there are a lot of condos and homes—not to mention the airport. How this moose ended up here is a mystery, but I sure hope he finds his way back to the deep woods soon before he gets hit by a car.

It was really an exciting way to start my day!

Now onto the mogul part of my post. With some great spring conditions comes the opportunity to tackle soft, knee-bashing moguls. Jay Peak Resort holds its Spring Mogul Contest on Saturday, April 12. Registration is from 9 - 11:30 a.m. at The Jet triple chair.

For $10, guys and gals and skiers and riders will face off at noon for prizes and glory. These events are also fun to watch, so swing by The Jet if you are skiing Jay Peak on Saturday. The resort is reporting that they are still in full operation.

Enjoy the soft moguls...we rarely get to say that in Vermont!
