Honest-to-goodness SPRING skiing today at Sugarbush, Vermont. So tasty on April 22!

A quintessential spring skiing day at Sugarbush Resort in northern Vermont.

The resort plans to reopen for weekends through May 6, weather permitting.

Corn snow, sunscreen and blue skies. This is the recipe for an amazing spring skiing day.

On Sunday, we enjoyed honest-to-goodness spring skiing at Sugarbush Resort, Vermont. The trails were well covered (even at this late date) with snow that softened more and more as the day went on. It's so fun to swoosh your way down the mountain!

Four lifts were operating on Lincoln Peak — Super Bravo Quad, Heaven's Gate Triple, Valley House Quad and Castlerock Double (really!). The resort plans to reopen for weekends through May 6, weather permitting.

Over on the Castlerock Double Chair, we enjoyed good snow coverage on Middle Earth and nice, corn snow bumps. Ski patrollers shoveled snow onto the sunny section of the bottom catwalk to be sure people could complete their run.

Jester, Murphy's Glade and Birdland skied very well, as did Snowball and Spring Fling. We enjoyed getting to know the Moonshine trail off of the Valley House Quad. It had some trees sprinkled in the middle of the trail and it was just off the beaten path. We had to tiptoe through some dirt patches at the bottom of the trail. But remember, this is a natural-snow trail on April 22!

The views were great today. Not a cloud in the sky; frosty peaks nearby; and tall, snowy Adirondacks and Presidential Range in the distance. Down in the valleys the fields had a greenish tinge. We took in the vast view (which included Lake Champlain) at the Lincoln Peak observation deck. It's at 3,975 feet in elevation and right on the Long Trail. You can hike up to it after getting off the Heaven's Gate chair.

What a way to spend a Sunday in late April!
