I'll admit it: I was a bit concerned when the Subaru's thermometer was still reading -7 degrees (F) and we were about to put our boots on. I had really wanted it to get to zero. But the sun was out and we knew the forecast was for temps rising to 20 or more during the day so off we went into the woods.

We warmed up quickly while meandering through the trees in the Sterling Forest in Stowe, Vermont. We found the snow was very nice in the shade, and a little crusty if it had been in the sun.

Speaking of the sun, it was stunningly sunny this morning. A beautiful blue sky juxtaposed against the white woods. Just lovely!

We kept moving, wiggled our toes and swung our hands to keep everything warm. We had backpacks packed with more layers, handwarmers and emergency gear if we needed it.

All in all it was a great morning on the snow!
