IN A WORLD... where winter blankets the northern reaches of America in copious amounts of snow, one filmmaker (or maybe two) dares to deliver a heart-pumping, ear-throbbing spectacle to salivating skiers year after year. Who are these snow-worshiping heroes? Why do they do it? And, um, how can we get a ticket?

That's right: it's time for our annual fall ski flicks. Warren Miller and Teton Gravity Research are making their rounds with this year's ski film offerings.

Here's the schedule for northern Vermont. Check the film Web sites to find other screenings around the country.

Wait, there's more! I just noticed that Vermont-based Meathead Films debuts its newest East Coast ski flick "Head For the Hills" on Friday, September 26, at UVM's CC Theater in the Billings Student Center. Admission is a mere $5 and mullets get in free. (Really, they said that.) Two shows at 6:30 and 9 p.m. They'll be at Middlebury College on September 28. <link http: www.meatheadfilms.com events all external-link-new-window ski>Check out their Web site for more details.

Here's a peek at the 59th annual Warren Miller film. No, that is not a typo.

Here's a taste of the TGR film. I'm not so sure about the name, but looks like it's got all the action we've come to expect from these films.
